
All Source Language Solution seminars are developed
by the most experienced interpreter trainers in the field. Our offerings
begin with the Introduction to Court Interpreting (Spanish/English)
but will soon include seminars for intermediate and advanced court
interpreters as well as interpreters working in other settings and
in other languages.
Introduction to Court Interpreting
This seminar is designed for Spanish/English bilinguals
completely new to the field of court interpretation or with very
limited experience. All seminars will begin on Friday morning at
8 a.m. and complete on Sunday at 12 p.m. For a more detailed schedule,

Course objectives include:

Introduce
and familiarize students with the court system. |

Introduce
students to the ethical and procedural parameters of court interpretation. |

Introduce
and familiarize students with the three modes of interpretation:
simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation. |

Practice
interpreting in the three modes using materials that reflect
the content and difficulty of entry level court interpreter
positions. |

 |
Provide
feedback, study materials, and resource guides so that students
will recognize skill-sets they need to develop and understand
how to do so. |

It is very important that
students register for the course appropriate for their skill level.
Experienced interpreters will not be allowed to attend the introductory
course, but should wait for the intermediate and advanced courses
to be offered. Similarly, those without interpreting experience
will not be allowed to register for the intermediate and advanced
courses unless recommended by SLS faculty.
