Joyce Garcia
Joyce was certified by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts
in 1989. She has a bachelor's and a master's degree in Spanish Literature
from the University of Arizona. She was a participant in the first
University of Arizona Summer Institute of Court Interpretation in
1983 and has worked as an interpreter and translator since 1985. Joyce
has taught for the Agnese Haury Institute for Court Interpretation
from 1992 to the present, and has served on the Advisory Board for
the Translation Studies Certificate for Pima Community College and
has been faculty for that program since it began in 1997. She has
also held office in the Arizona Court Interpreters Association (ACIA)_and
has been a presenter for the ACIA and the National Association for
Judicial Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT).
Cristina Helmerichs
Cristina is federally certified by the Administrative Office of
the United States Courts, is a graduate of and former faculty member
at the University of Arizona's Agnese Haury Institute for Court
Interpretation, and is the current President of the National Association
of Judicial Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT). She has worked
as a freelance interpreter in numerous court, conference, and other
settings
throughout Texas and elsewhere and has trained and presented at
multiple seminars and conferences.
Donna Whitman
Donna graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's
degree in Spanish and her interpreting career spans more than 28
years. She is certified by the Administrative Office of the United
States Courts and was an examiner for the Federal Court Interpreter
Certification Examination. She has both attended and is now a faculty
member at the University of Arizona's Agnese Haury Institute for
Court Interpretation and has extensive experience in the training
of judges and interpreters at the state and federal level. She serves
as a faculty member of the Translation Studies Program at Pima Community
College and is presently a member of the Arizona Supreme Court Commission
for Court Interpreter Certification and Funding.
Miriam Flores
Miriam holds interpreter certifications from the states of California,
Nevada, and the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
Since 1996 she has been a staff interpreter for the North Las Vegas
Municipal Court in Nevada and prior to that interpreted for the
Los Angeles Superior Court. She is a graduate of the University
of Arizona's Agnese Haury Institute for Court Interpretation and
has been an Adjunct Instructor of interpretation and translation
courses for the University of Las Vegas,
Nevada, and is currently a Spanish Instructor for the Community
College of Southern Nevada. Miriam has also developed and taught
multiple interpreter training programs throughout Nevada and California.
Kathleen O'Hanlon
Kathleen, a federally-certified court interpreter with master's
degrees in
journalism and Spanish, has nearly 20 years' experience teaching
University-level English and/or Spanish. Students and fellow faculty
members have consistently rated her instruction excellent to outstanding.
She is an alumna of the Agnese Haury Summer Institute for Court
Interpretation, and is currently providing interpreting services
at several settings including: U.S. district courts; pre-trial-services;
attorney-client communications; hearings, trials and probation interviews;
the U.S. Attorney's Office; U.S. Immigration Court; business meetings
and conferences.
